Hello.
I am a Ruby on Rails Web Developer from Woodbury, Minnesota. I am also a musician, blogger, tech enthusiast, and overall geek.
I have a degree in Physics but have yet to apply it outside of school, but isn't that the way it goes? For now I am rabidly devoted to Ruby, Rails, and great web application design.
When I develop web applications I focus on usability, clean and modern design, practicality, and connectivity. My core philosophies are shaped by modern agile design principles and the Ruby on Rails community. In terms of web application development, I have developed 7 live applications that range from personal blogs to full blown social networking sites. The question that drives my development is "Does this make the application easier to use." While I make use of modern web technologies and tools like Ajax and flash, I make sure to keep the focus on usability and accessibility.
My main focus these days is on the untapped markets, namely small to medium size businesses with frustrating problems that could be solved or alleviated by clever web based applications. Thanks to rails, developers can bring a full featured maintainable web application to market in very short order while keeping overhead and man-hours low. My web app turnout time is approximately 25 hours. My CSS/XHTML design-to-markup time is around 4 hours.
Nuttersmark.com has gone through many design iterations since its inception. You could say it suffers from an acute case of sequelitous. In order to stay on top of one's game as a web developer this habit of constant renewal must exist. Nuttersmark.com is on its 5th design iteration and that's not counting the ones that never made it off the cutting room floor.
I started this site to fulfill a long time desire to get a personal website and blog up and running - something that I had been putting off for years. It was my brother's suggestion that I look into Ruby and Ruby on Rails that intrigued me to the point where I decided to finally get something up and running. I started out using Typo! as the platform for the blog which was a great starting point for a Rails beginner. Not long after that I outgrew the need for a pre-made application and decided to write the blog software for Nuttersmark from scratch, mainly to build experience but also so that it would be easy for me to add more advanced functionality as I needed it. So Nuttersmark has become a sandbox and showcase for my Rails development.
"Just a Nutter Blog", the blogging component of Nuttersmark.com has been a fairly successful effort. It has landed on Digg's homepage 4 times and garners a considerable amount of traffic these days. My goal is to create a blog/zine that offers plenty of interesting and well written articles on a variety of topics, from tech to video games to sports as well as anything else my friends and I find interesting. And hey, if I end up with a little ad revenue along the way you won't hear me complaining about it.
